CROYDON SCHOOL ENTERTAINMENT

At tlie Pavilion, Day's Bay, on Saturday evening, before a largo audionce, the pupils of Croydon Preparatory School gave an entertainment in aid of tho Wounded Soldiers' Fund. Included' in the programme were a. number of boxing bouts, Swedish drill exercises, fancy marching, and several patriotic song's. The soloists were; Masters D. Earle, Willoughby, Macartliur, Russell, and Bennett, and all acquitted themselves extrqmely well. The boxing bouts, which comprised the fiuals of the school championships,'" 1 were keenly contested, the combatants displaying both vigour and skill, all being heartily applauded for their plucky efforts. The drill exercises and the fancy marching wero particularly well done. Tinder the" direction of Mr. Howarth, the school instructor, the boys went through their exercises with delightful crispnoss and precision, and in the intricate marches and evolutions of a somi-military nature acquitted themselves with such credit that round after round of applause rang out. Miss Sommerville, 1 principal of Croydon School, and Miss Winder played the .accompaniments to the songs and tho drill movements.' At the .close of the entertainment tho prizes won in the boxing contests were distributed by Lady Bell as follow:— Bantam-weight: Lawrence, champion; Williams, runner-up. Mosquito-weiglit: Didsbury, champion; Boimett, runner-up. Feather-weight: Willoughby, champion; Macartliur, runner-up. • Light-weight: Newbigcn, champion; Pearce, runner-up-.. .
