TRAMWAYS BAND CONCERT
. The Wellington Municipal Tramways Band's concert, liekl in His Majesty's Theatre last evening, attracted a largo audience. The band, 'which is fairly evenly balanced, was not in full strength, and did not attempt any music that calls for special comment. The playing of : "Australasis" proved the band to be possessed of a sound cornctist in Scrgt. J. Glenny, whose robust tone and clean triple-tongueing in' the. polka movement earned for him' a de-, : served encore. The band played the contest march "Mephistopheles," tho pretty intermezzo,' "Amina," and the. descriptive fantasia, "A Military Church Parade'" (arranged by J. Ord Hume), in which bells and other effects were introduced. The' fantasia concludes with a hymn tuno in which the audience were requested to join, but the response was not very hearty. Tho Lyric ' Pour,, which consists ,of Messrs. H. F. Wood, W. Jennings, W. Goudie,'and C. Connors, sang the quartets "We Shall Meet," I'Art Thou Weary?" "My Lady Sleeps," and "Spin, Spin." Mr. AV. Goudie sang "Nearer, My God, to Thee" and a ballad, arid Mr. Herbert F. .Wood also contributed a solo.
