NEW FREEZING WORKS
TO OPERATE IN AUGUST, 1916. By Telegraph—Press Aesooiation. Wanganui, June 24. Tho essential preliminary step in an industrial enterprise of immense interest to AVanganui and the whole of this coast has just been completed, negotiar tions for tho purchase of a site for new freezing works having been brought to a successful issue. The clicseu site consists of a block of twenty-four acres at Imlay, between the town and tho Heads, an ideal location for the requirements of the industry, being close to the port and with direct access by road, rail, and river. The vendor of the land was Mr. Fred Faber, and the purchaser is the Christchurch Meat Co., Ltd., the largest concern of the kind in the Dominion. Building operations are to commence as soon as possible, and it is expected that the works, which are to be in brick, will bo ready for business in August next year. Not less than £100,000 will be invested in tho site, buildings, and plant. The works are being planned for a killing capacity of 4000 sheep and 100 head of cattle per day, and a storage capacity of 200,000. The company controls five freezing worits kt Islington, near Christchurch, Smitbfield works in the vicinity of Tima.ru. Bumside works near Dunedin (the pioneer plant of the Dominion), works at Picton, and tho recently completed works at Pukeuri, near Oamaru.
