THANKED FOR THEIR BRAVE STAND
BRITISH THIRD CAVALRY DIVISION AT YPRES. Dunkirk, June 20. Field-Marshal Sir John French inspected the Third Cavalry Division and thanked them for their wonderful performance in the trendies at \pres. Ho described the gas attacks as dastardly. The gas came as a bolt from tho blue. Many troops dropped dead 011 the spot. Ij was impossible to see anything, and tho darkness was rendered more opaquo !>v the asphyxiating fumes. A rertain amount of confusion was unavoidable, but tho troops recovered with superb ouickness, and in magnificent, manner filled the pap in tho faoe of a wall of «as miles long and'yards hieli. They could not be too highly praised. _ Ho especially thanked the Third Division for their work at Chateau Hoogo. As Sir John Frenoh was leaving the mon broke ranks and cheered and waved their caps. It was an impressive pio(ure —gi r John French in the middlo or the men with his hand stiffly at the salute. It was indicative of tho perfect trust and loyalty existing bttwoeu troops and commandors.
