RAFFLING FOR FUNDS.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —It is astonishing that the Minister of Justice allows tlio shameful raffling that is going 011 in our midst, and more astonishing that professedly Christian men are supporting such degrading means lor raising funds for the support of men who have offered their lives for us. We 'have some hundreds of- ministers of religion in the Wellington district, and only with one or two exceptions has a word been said. Where i.S the Ministers' Association? Not content, however, with gambling on motor-cars and everything else of any value, the little children are to bo brought in to ■ buy tickets oil dolls houses, etc., so that they may develop the mania Which is already cursing New Zealand. The whole question of raising the necessary funds [or our gallant soldiers is a disgrace to the Government of the country. I cannot think what they are thinking of to allow this Carnival spirit to be manifested in these days of horror and bloodshed. The people will give to their last.penny, hut what we ought to have, and that at once, is a war tax of 1 per cent, on every £100 of income, gathered in quarterly payments. We should stop this fooling of the people, and get down to our sober senses in the matter. But 'whatever happens these ungodly ways of raising funds should be stopped, and stopped at once. —I am, etc., u • WAR TAX.
CHILBLAINS AND COLD-SORES. ZAM-BUK PPT3J3DTT-T ENHS WINTER SKIN TORTUBE. Chilblains are a mild form of frostbite. The affected part, whether on hands, ears, or toes, is always much. Inflamed, and there is generally swelling, redness, and a painful, maddening irritai;ion. Gentle applications of Zam-Buk will quickly banish these discomforting symptoms. and, if the swelling hursts, leaving the skin surface raw and ulcerated, ZamBuk is doubly valuable because of its uniciiio healing and antiseptic powers. "For many months," says Mrs. A. Schutt, of Lark Street, Thebarton, Adelaide, • "my little girl Jessie was tortured by chilblains, which broke out on her feet, hands and ears. The itching irritnfcion ivas awful. Th<* chilblains burst, ami for throe months Jessie was laid up. Her fingers and toes were in a terribly raw state, then the skin peeled ofi and made fctem worse. The suffering she endured was horrible. Although we used many ordinary ointments, not one of them didt any good. It was only after 'commencing with Zam-Buk that Jessie obtained relief. This splendid balm enfled all the irritation and soothed the burning pain. As we continued with ZamBuk the sore places gradually inealed, an<l new skin was grown on her hands and feet. nil "It is four years since Zam-Buk cured Jossio, and she has not been troubled with chilblains since." For cuts, bruises, burns, scalds, ami sprains Zain-Buk is a perfect ever-ready healer. It is also unequalled for eczema, cold-sores, chilblains, wiles, bad legs, ulcers, barber's rtish, stiff joints, and rheumatism. Of all'chemists and stores at Is. (id. or Gd. a pot. '
