JAM FACTORY CLOSING DOWN
OWING TO SUGAR SHORTAGE. (By Telegraph.—Prees Association.) Nelson, June 15. Kirkpatrick's "K" jam factory will have to 'close down next week for a period owing to being unable to obtnin a supply of sugar. A large number of hands will bo affected. SHORT WEEK IN AUCKLAND FACTORY. Auckland, June 15. Owing to the difficulty of getting sufficient supplies of sugar, Messrs Thompson and Hill's jam factory, employing seventy hands, 'has had to close down two days a week. The attention of Mr. Philson, local manager of the Colonial Sugar Company, was directed to this and to the difficulties being encountered in Nelson by Messrs. Kirkpatrick and Co. in the same respect. Mr. Philson said lie had no knowledge of the matter, and so far as he know the jam factories were receiving sufficient sugar "to keep going." He added that his company was unable to supply companies with sugar for speculative purposes..
