THE CITY MILK SUPPLY.
Sir,—As one who takes a keen inf re ?s ! l s "PPIy, I was afraid that now the municipal elections "ft °*i er , - hat t,le . Cit y Council had shelved this most important question until next election. But am pleased to say this is not so, as they are having Sol s® ? f the milk supply chained and padlocked to the verandah posts at the railway platforms for four or five houre per day. I suppose this is only an experiment to see how long tho milk will keep under the best sanitary conditions obtainable. Trusting you will publish this to show that the City Council are in earnest, and that something is being done.—l am, etc., ... CURIOUS. Wellington, June 12, 1910. . [As yet the City Council have nothing whatever to do with the milk supply of the City, and cannot be held responsible for the time milk is loft at the railway station. Tho vendors in town take delivery of their milk from tho railways, and some of them do leavo their milk at the station (out of the sun) for two, and at times thrco, hours, to suit the "lay" of their rounds. The cans are padlocked to the posts as there have been cases when the milk belonging to ono vendor has been lifted by another, and the railway officials do all in their power to protect all vendors.]
