FOR THE WOUNDED SOLDIERS

GREAT EFFORT IN MARTINBOROUGH. (By Telegraph—Special Correspondent.) Mastarton, June 1. A meeting of farmers was held at Martinborough to-day to form a committee_ to canvas that part of the district in aid of the Wounded Soldiers' Fund. A strong committee was set up and a sum of £3000 was subscribed in tho room. Mr. A. P. Whatman, of Masterton. stated that he was so impressed with the gallant work of New Zealanders that lie intended giving £1000 to the fund. Mr. G. 'C. Williams, of Masterton, endorsed the remarks of Mr. Whatman, and said he would give £500. Martinborough contributions included £500 from Mr. John Martin. £200 from Mr. Dan Cameron, £200 from Messrs. D. and E. P. Cameron, and £100 each from Messrs. A. D. M'Leod, A. M'Donald, and J. A. M'Dougall.
