(By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.) — $ AN ATROCIOUS TRAGEDY CRUEL AND DELIBERATE MURDERS. Sydney, June 14. An atrocious tragedy occurred at Stanmore, resulting in tho deaths of Mrs. Tucker and her brother (Ernest Matheson), and the attempted suicido of the murderer, Jolin Thoiuas Tucker. According to the story told by Tuck- , er's fifteen-year-old son the father was recently sent to gaol for not complying 3 with a maintenance order Returning 3 home, ho gained admittance to the 3 houso by a window, and tied his wife P to the bedpost, where she remained all night, while he himself slept, also keeping the boy in the room. ' Matheson called the next morning and was admitted. Tucker, threatening 1 with a revolver, made the boy bind Matheson's eyes and hands. Tucker then beat Matheson on the head with the butt of the revolver till he was dead. Tucker returned to bed and . slept throughout the day. The boy, worn out with watching, was awakened during the night by his mother's cries, and found his father s beating her. Ha continued his fiendish . work till she was dead. Tucker then ! shot himself. He is in the hospital in a , Berions condition. The boy escaped and \ informed the police. LATER DETAILS OF THE CRIME., i (Rec. June 14, 8 p.m.) Sydney, June 14. Tucker had been released from prison a few days ago. He forced his way into the house in the early hours of the morning. It appears that he used a hatchet for killing his victims. He kept his wife tied to the bedpost for several hours, and then released her, after killing Matheson. The mother and the boy then spent twelve frightful hours, without food. There were frequent quarrels between the couple, terminating in Tucker striking his wife on tho head with the hatchet. The blows were repeated with every groan til] she was dead, the boy burying his head under tho bedclothes in terror at the sight. Tucker, alter shooting himself through the cheek, went to his sister's residence, and thence was taken to the ' Hospital. He is likely to recover, 1 ITEMS IN BRIEF. The railwaymen and tramwaymen, on their own initiative, have provided tho Aid to the Wounded Fund with the finest patriotic display witnessed in Sydney. A Commission is investigating 2076 claims for compensation for the Government's wheat seizures.
