SUPREME COURT

AN ARCHITECT'S APPEAL. 11l the Supreme Court yesterday morning, His Honour Mr. Justice Chapman heard an appeal by way of notice of motion in the matter of the New Zealand Institute of Architects Act, 1913. The appellant was Arthur Henry Leaper, architeot and builder, of Nelson, and the respondents were the Architects' Registration Board of Now Zealand. Mr. Fell, of Nelson, appeared for Lea.per, while Mr. A. W. Blair appeared for the respondent board. From the affidavits tiled, it appeared that Leaper applied for registration on tho ground that, -under the provisions of the above-mentioned Act, he was entitled to be so registered, but on March 5 last the board declined to grant the application. The ground of the refusal was briefly .that Leaper was a master builder and not an architect. Leaper now asked for an order of the Court directing tho board and the secretary (W. Beauchamp Platts) to register him (Leaper) as a member of tho New Zealand Institute of Architects, and to pay tho oosts of the Court proceedings. In support of his application Leaper contended that since 18S7 as a member of the firm of Leaper Bros, he had been engaged continuously in practice as an architect. After hearing legal argument His Honour reserved decision.
