MAKARA AFFAIRS
4 The monthly meeting! of the Makara County Council was held yesterday. There wore present: Councillors A. J. Taylor (in the chair), J. H. Haggerty. J. Monaghan, J. Pyle, S. Bryaait, and G. Monk. The chairman was appointed a delegate to act on tho conference of local bodies, in connection with the rating of Crown lands. A letter was received from the Petons Council on the subject. It was decided to support the objection of the Karori Borough Council to the present system, by- which the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board levy is inade._ Notice of motion was given by Councillor Bryant for next meeting of the council that the county ratca both for tie Porirua and Makara Ridings be the same as last year. It was decided that no action« be taken iti regard to a complaint received from a ratepayer respecting a drain which crossed the road in front of his property at Newlands, as the drain complained of was a natural watercourse. j Mr. F. T. Moore wrote, complaining about the wandering stock nuisance on the Johnsonville-Ponrua Road, and it was decided to take aotion whero possible. and to oall for applications' for an additional ranger.
