MASTERTON NOTES
The Masterton Patriotio Committee has made arrangements for the fitting reception of soldiers who may return wounded from the front. The annual ploughing match in connection with the Wairarapa P. and A. Society is to bo held in Sir. A. Petersen's paddock at Clareyiile.on July 1, One or two patriotic settlers of the Wairarapa have intimated their intention of giving motor-cars to bo raffled in aid of the Wounded Soldiers' Fund. A boxing tournament is to be hold in June 23, in aid of the War Relief Fund. Mr. Erl Williams, of Masterton, received a cablegram this weok from his mother (Mrs. T. C. Williams), who is in London, asking him to collect and send old linen, as it is badly needed iu tlio hospitals. A sparrow match sweepstake, fired by the Wairarapa Gun Club on Thursday, was won by W. Tt. Roberts, while a olay-liird sweepstake was won by R. ,1. King. A successful patriotic gift auction was held at Kail una lnsl night, when a sum of about i'l lf) was raised.
