$ AFFAIRS OF THE THORNDON CLUB. The directors of the Thoradon Bowling Club in their annual report state that the 1914-16 season closed with a debit balance of £117 Os. 9d., from whioh has to be deducted debit balance at the beginning of tho season of £80 lis. 6d., leaving a deficit for the year of £36 9s. 4d. This is accounted for by the falling off in the number of members from 117 to 99, only six new members being enrolled during the season, against twenty-four resignations, etc. The directors draw attention to the absolute necessity for an increase in the membership, and ask that special efforts be made bv the present mambers to accomplish that eud, so a* to place the club upon a more secure financial basis. "During the season, with tho idea of popularising the game, in lieu of interclub matches arrangements were made (says the report) for a series of competitions for tho Ross Thistles, Shamrock, and Roses. Entries were invited, and entrance fees charged, with the object of giving trophies to the winners of the various events. Departure was made from the usual praobice by classifying the players and drawing tne teams by ballot. These competitions, - from various causes, were not a success. None of these events was completed, and there none, of the winners is declared. The club championships for singles, pairs, and rinks were competed for, the winners being:—Singles, Mr. J. P. Brandon; Pairs, Messrs. G. Johnson and G. Leighton (skip); rinks. Messrs. F. G. Staff, G. Johnson, J. Conlin, C. Parata (skip). The club won the B division of the Pennantß, being defeated in one game only by the narrow margin of one point.
