MINERS FOR THE FRONT
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Creymouth, May 29. More men left for Wellington this morning to join the new battalions. A number of coalminers from Blackball, also from a smaU mine near lleefton, where seven of nine left to-day, were among them. The latter mine has been temporarily closed. The list also includes the names of four brothers, a fifth being already in the Dardanelles. A notable feature of last night's farewell speeches was when Harold Ernest Denton stepped from the ranks and said he had fought hard against compulsory military training, but was now up against the intrigue of Germany and her system of conscription. They had to get out honourably, and. were now going to the front voluntarily.
