WOUNDED ARMY HORSES
A subscription list has been opened I for donations to the "Royal Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals' Fund 1 for Sick and Wounded Horses." This fund, which was started soon ' after the commencement of the war, is admniistcred by a special committee of 1 the Royal Society under the chairman- ' ship of the Duke of Portland, and is the only fund of its kind approved by 1 the Array Council. ' It works as auxiliary to tlie Army 1 Veterinary Corps, and its aim is to au*- ' nient the supply of medical stores, horse ' shelters, hospital, and stable requisites —such a 6 rugs (old or new), woollen ' bandages, head collars, halters; and to ! provide horse-drawn ambulances, motor- ; lorries, and, if possiblo, moCor ambulances. As far hack as October 16, 1914, the J Army Veterinary Corps had dealt with 1 some 27,000 horses saving the lives of ■ many which would have been condemned ! as incurable oven in times of peace. This fund will certainly appeal to all ' horso lovers (of which t.hero must no | doubt he a large proportion in a community such as ours), as not only will 1 assistance such as this tend to ameliorate the suffering of our dumb comrades, but by preventing wastage of horse-flesh have a material effect in conserving a most important faotor of military organisation. Full information as to what is bein" done with the fund can be obtauioa at the Wellington office of the society. Winder's Building, Cuba Street, and any money received there will be sent oil to the proper authorities in London.
