AMATEUR ATHLETICS

MEETING OF ASSOCIATION. A meeting of the Now Zealand Amateur Athletic Association was held last night, Mr. W. H. Pollock presided. A motion standing in the name of Mr. A. X. Marryatt was carried, lifting the disqualification and suspension from members who took part in the military sports meeting at Trentham last January.

It was decided to support the Victorian Association in having the Australasian cross-country championships postponed for twelve months.

It was decided to reply to a letter from Canterbury that the taking part in a motor-cycle race for cash prizes was an infraction of the amateur status.

A letter was received from tlio "Wellington Ceutre, asking why C. C. Francis, who resided in Wellington, was allowed to compete for Auckland at a incetinn—lt was decided to reply that Francis was domiciled in Auckland, and was only a relioving officer in Wellington.

A. D. Elliott, school teacher of Windsor, Oamaru, applied for reinstatement as an amateur.—lt was decided to grant this at the end of.twelve months, subject to the concurrence of the Cycling Union. S. D. Menin, Masterton, was reiustated without conditions.

An offer was received from Mr. J. F. Atkins of a shield valuod at £10 10s. and ten medals for competition amongst boys* colleges in New Zealand. The offer was accepted with thanks. - An offer was also accepted with thanks, from Mr. R. B. Grange, of a trophy valued at £3 3s. It was decided to allocate this to the cross-country championship. Mr. R. G. Anderson, Otago Centre, suggested that the association shoula assist in the holding of cross-country races for the soldiers at Trentham. _ The chairman suggested that the harrier clubs in Wellington might visit the camp and give runs, as was to be done by the Brooklyn Club.

It was decided to leave the matter in the hands of the chairman, Mr. Davis, and the secretary to approach the Wellington Centre, the clubs, and the military authorities. If the proposal meets with support, a championship meeting may be held at Trentham.
