MASTERTON.

A meeting of the Conciliation Council was held in Masterton on Friday to hear the general labourers' dispute. Messrs. Heardon, Campbell, and Stofct appeared as representatives of -tho WlOll of Workers, and Messrs. Coradino, Tabiiteau, and Pickering represented the employers. Commissioner P. Hally presided. Mr. Coradine asked what was the position of municipal employees in regard to the dispute, and was informed' that they were exempt. After some discussion, the local employers agreed to be represented at a final conference to be held in Palmerstou North after the- Arbitration Court has given its judgment in the city dispute. The annual meeting of voters of the Masterton Trust Lands Trust was held on Thursday evening, when the report and balance-sheet were received. Mr. D. Caselberg presided. The following members have been elected to the Eketahuna County Council • West Riding: Messrs. J. Dawson, Connor, Archibald, and Parsons. East Riding: Messrs. Patchett, Cross, F.' Percy, and Darlington. A man named Harry Clements has been sentenced to fourteen days' hard labour for doing wilful damage to the Lower Taueru Hotel. Fifty-two recruits have been notified to be in readiness to proceed to the Trentham camp on May 29.
