SANDY BAY MARBLE
AMPLE SUPPLY AVAILABLE. I The Minister of Public Works (the j Hon. W. Fraser) informed a, Dominion ( reporter yesterday that there is an i ample supply of marble available in the i hills at Sandy Bay, Nelson. It will be : remembered that some time ago there ' was talk of an insufficiency of suitable : marble, which the contractors had agreed to use for the new Parliamentary Buildings, and the Minister dispatched experts of the Public Works Department to Nelson to see if a further quarry could be opened up. This quarry was opened up further back from the one formerly used, and an excellent supply will be available. The Minister is having a survey made of a proposed tramway line to enable the marble to be got out more expeditiously. The Minister haa a sample of the marble from the new quarry in his office, and it is a beautiful white stone, of excels lent quality, and with no signs of flaws 1 running through it.
