THE UNMASKING OF HERR BALLIN
ERSTWHILE FRIEND OF LORD HALDANE. (Rec. Ma y7, 6 p.m.) . . London, May 6. Speaking in the Houso of Lords Baron Hylton nailed attention to the "Times's" exposure of Herr Ballin. This remarkable history of duplicity and mendacity on the part of the Kaiser's intimate friend and adviser, he recommended should 1>« circulated 'in neutral countries to counteract tho German Press campaign. Lord Haldaue, in a letter to the "Times," suggests that Herr Ballin's inconsistency was probably a lapse of memory. He had had the pleasure of knowing Herr Ballin, and had always thought him an interesting personality.' Herr_ Ballin dined at Lord Haldane's house in July last, and subsequently wrote to his host, laying, stress on Germany's peaceful disposition. Lord Haldaue never corresponded with distinguished persons in Germany about public affairs, and made this statement in reply to the newspapers' suggestions that he had such correspondence in his possession.—("Times" and Sydney "Suu ' Services.)
