HARRIERS

BROOKLYN CLUB. Owing to train arrangements seventeen members of the Brooklyn Harriers' Club and their lady friends were unable to proceed to tne Trentham racecourse, which liad been placed at the club's disposal by the secretary of the Wellington Racing Club, Mr. A. E. .White, for the usual weekly run. Several members of the Expeditionary Force now in camp had signified their intention of taking.part, had the run been held. The committee have decided to hold the run at Trentham at a future date as soon as the necessary arrangements can be made. The somewhat dismayed pack took their departure, for Thorndon : Baths where a very< successful run was held. The trail-lay-ers,' P. Harvey and C. Willis, were given a good start and were responsible for trailing a good course. After leaving the baths the hare made off ill the direction of Kaiwarra, then Khandallah, where a turn was made for home, via Ngaio, Wadestown, and the Hutt Road. The pack was under the supervisjon of the club captain, F. Harlen, while P. Wilton acted as pacemaker. A handicap run-in'was held over the last part of the journey, which resulted .in a somewhat easy win for W. Coap, with P. Oliver second and J. Douglas third. Several novices took part in the run, all of .whom are showing splendid form. The first race of the season' is scheduled for next Saturday afternoon at Miramar, and is being looked upon with great interest. All the" prizes have been donated and a keen race should eventuate OLYMPIC CLUB. The Olympic Club held its _ usual weekly run from Oriental Bay Kiosk on Saturday afternoon. The weather was ideal for a good run, and a fairly large muster turned out.' Paper was dispensed with and the pack, under direction oi Captain F. ,J. Byrne, proceeded through Roseneath to the flagstaff, thence along the ridges of Mount Victoria to Constable Street. A short halt was made to allow the runners to get their breath after the fast Tun down tie hill. From here a course was followed through Hataitai to the Evans Bay Road, then along the road to the point. A handicap Tun-in of about 600 yards, resulted in a very close finish, F. J. Byrne just beating A. M'Cauley by half a yard for first place, with L. Brown a close third. Members are reminded of the invitation run from Brooklyn next Saturday; meet at top of Ohiro Road at 2.30 p.m. WELLINGTON CLUB. The Wellington Harriers held their weekly run from Kelburn Kiosk on Saturday, and/a good muster turned out for what proved an enjoyable run. Captain Farrington was in charge of the pack, with J. Pearse, vice-captain, a? whipper-in. H. Bennett acted as pacemaker, and led the pack up round Upland Road, then through Highbury Road, along the catchment area, and down through the reservoir reserve to the golf links. A turn was then made across the paddock to Macdohald Street and down the new road / through the' tunnel, and back to the starting point, via Upland Road. A run-in- <ver the last 300 yards resulted:—S. Culverwell, 1; J. Bennett, 2; C. Fisher, 3. Next Saturday the novice race will be held from Seatoun tea rooms. SCOmsI~CLUB. A very successful run was held by the 'Scottish Harriers at Lyall Bay, some fourteen members attending. The trail, laid by Vice-Captain Ballantyne and G. Hutchison, led from Lyall Bay tea rooms along the beacli towards Seatoun, skirted the golf links and then struck off towards tlio Miramar cutting and home along the tram route' from Kilbirnie. A handicap run-in over tha last 250 yards,' resulted in a win. from a back mark, for A. Dudson, a rtinher of some repute who was' present as a : guest of the club. Should his services b.j obtained by the club they will prove a decided .acquisition. Of the club members the order.at the finish was: R. Waters, W. Ballantyno, and E. M. Phillips. A pleasant feature of the run 'was. the number of lady supporters present. .A, party of over thirty partook of afternoon' tea after the run,"
