THE EXTRA UNITS

ARTILLERY IN CAMP. ■ . Though the Minister of Defence only announced publioly the ; acceptance by the War Office of an extra unit of 2000 infantry and 500 artillery on April 17, ;the whole of the artillery is already in oamp, and settled, down, into camp life. Indeed, •. there were far more applications for admittance to this section of the new force thin could be accepted, and many desirous of getting away have registered to. go a 6 infantrymen rather than be left out altogether. Already 60 officers and 106 N.C.O.'s have gone under canvas for the infantry section, and others are expected to arrive, this week. The men will not be called up until May 29, by whioh time the offioers and N.C.Owill have been trained thoroughly in their duties. One of the new battalion commanders of the new force will be LieutenantColonel Henry Townsend Fulton, D.5.0., of tho 2nd King Edward's Own Ghurka Rifles, jvha oommanded a composite half-battalion of the original Sarooan Expeditionary Force. Colonel Fulton was to have oommanded the 4th Reinforcements, but was withdrawn in favour of-- the . present command; when it was definitely deoided to send forward a big supplement to the'' Expeditionary Force' now abroad. HOT SHOWER BATHS. Through the generosity of the Dunedin Fa triotio Fund Committee the sum of £200 has been' placed at the disposal of the camp authorities to provide hot water shower baths for the men in camp at Trentham. The sum mentioned is expected to cover the cost of the erection of 40 showers, a provision that is bound to be appreciated by the men. It i 6 estimated' that when there are approximately 7000 men in camp about the'middle of winter, at'least ' 160 showers will be founds necessary to thoroughly equip the camp in that direction. ' 1
