CRICKET
A RAILWAY MATCH. Representatives of the Wellington ' Railway Cricket Club, winners of the Warehousemens Competition, travelled to Palmerston. North on Fridav night by "the Auckland Express to play the local Railway Club, winners of the Palmerston Saturday Competition. Play was commenced at II a.m. on Saturday morning, and resulted in a win for the Wellingtonians by 128 runs after a very enjoyable game. Wellington won the toss and elected to bat on a perfect wicket, and had knocked up 115 at the lunoheon adjournment for the loss of three wiokets.
After lunch runs still came freely, and the score was carried to 199 before the team was finally disposed of. Of this score Donoghue scored 101 (retired) by very attractive cricket, including two sixes and 13 fours, and received an ovation upon returning to the pavilion. Other double-figure scorers were: Doolsy 24, Watson 22, and A. Cornfoot 17.
Palmerston could only score 71 against the bowling of A. Cornfoot, Dooley, and Donoghue. A. Cornfoot took five wickets for 30 runs, Donoghue two for four, and Dooley two for 31. Double-figure scorers for Palmerston were: Cornish 17, Allingham 14, Kerr,
11. Greer, with eight wickets, was the most successful bowler for Palmerston. The team returned by the 5 o'clock train from Palmerston after a very pleasant outingt BOYS' LEAGUE. In the final for the Boys' League Championship, senior grade, Y.M.C.A. defeated United Methodist on the Basin Reserve on Saturday. The match was played oil the senior wicket, and was productive of some keen rivalry. DAYLICHT SAVING. . (By Telegraph—Press Association.) Clirlstchurch, April 25. The New Zealand Cricket Council tonight decided to write to Mr. T. K. Sidey, M.P., 6tating that his Daylight Saving Bill had the hearty support of the council. A letter on the matter came from tho North Taranaki Association.
