KARORI CLUB. There was a good, muster of mem- ' bers at the links on Saturday, when the first competition of the season, a mixed foursome, was played. Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Atkinson won the event after some interesting play. Those present spent an enjoyable afternoon, the weather conditions being perfcot. OFFICIAL OP FINING AT HERETAUNGA. The official opening of tho season at the Wellington Golf Club's links at Heretaunga took place on Saturday in glorious sunshine. Tho links were in capital order, and the prospect from the terrace on which the pavilion stands was indeed charming, the trees and plantation, with their varied autumn tints, blending harmoniously with the green of the turf. There was a large attendance of members, and of visitors from other clubs and their friends.
The president of the club, Sir Joseph Ward, who was accompanied by Lady Ward, declared the links opoti for play for the season.
Mixed foresomes (bngev), in which a hundred competitors took part, were played for prizes presented by members of the committee. The following cards wore handed in:—

Putting competitions • were held during the afternoon for a tropliy presented by Mrs. Dr. Webster, the best cards for 18 holes being: Miss Stafford, 33; Miss Maud Wheeler, 35; Miss M. Millar, 35. MIRAMARCLUB. Tho Miramar Golf Club's Qrst.competition of the season, a bogey handi--1 cap, was played on Saturday, 'and tho best scores returned were as follow:— W. T. Wynvard (handicap 3), 4 up: L. V. Hurst (2), 4 up; R. Wilson (12), 2 up; W. E. Spencer (11), 2 up; M. W. Horton (scr.), 1 up> G. 0. Sutton (5). all square; H. P. F. Blundell (8), all square; 0. E. Richardson (12), 1 down. In playing off tho tie, tho event was won by W. T. Wynyard. Playing in a medal round afterwards, Wynyard returned the phenomenal gross score of 69, which is within one stroke of A.
