VICTORIA COLLEGE
MEETING OF COUNCIL. Tho Victoria. College Council met last night. There were present Mr. H. H. Ostler (chairman), Sir Robert Stout, the Hon. A. L. Hortlma.il, the Hon. J. G. W. Aitkeu, Rev. W. A. Evans, Dr. Hector, and Messrs. T. R. Fleming, AY. Forguson, C. Wilson, \V. H. Morton, A. R. Atkinson, and C. Watson.
Tlio I'inance Committee reported that it had received from Professor Pickcti
the cneque paid him for March, and recommended that the amount should be placed 011 the books as a donation, and a letter of thanks sent. —Tho recommendation was adopted. A gift of books to the college library was acknowledged from. Mr. F. M. B. Fisher. The books consisted of a complete set of Hansard and some valuable records.
A report from the Professorial Board was received 011 tie question as to the capacity of the Jacob Joseph Scholarships' candidates to undertake original work, and certified that the candidates had given sufficient ovidence of that cnpacity as follows: —Mr. \V. Heine in languages; Miss E. M. Shirer in languages; and. Mr. E. Fitzgerald-Eager, mental and moral philosophy. The matter was referred back to the board to find out why Miss Shirer had been placed ahead of ■ Mr. Fitzgerald-Eager. Accounts amounting to £959 2s. 6d. were passed for payment.
