FATAL EXPLOSION

A YOUNG.MAN KILLED. (37 Teteerttdh.—Press Association.) Pahlatua, April 16. A fatal accident occurred to-day to Fred Hedges, i! 0 years of age, eldest soil of Mr. F. Hedges, jeweller. Tlie young man was of an experimental turn of mind, and had improvised a small carbide gasometer in ids bedroom. Just before dinner he was, it is thought, apparently' inspecting it, when an explosion occurred, Hedges receiving the lull forces in .the face. He sustained injuries to tho face, eyes, and head, and there were signs on the ceiling of tho effect of the .explosion. He was removed to the Hospital in an unconscious condition, and succumbed two/ hours later. The mother of the young man, with two members of the family, are at present on a visit to Auckland. ■
