MAKURI FARMERS' UNION

At a meeting of the Farmers'. Union, held at Jlakuri on Saturday, the following ofliccrs we re appointed:—Chairman, Mr. W. E. C. Tyler; vice-chair-man, Mr. VI. Coom;'auditor, Mr. T. Wilson; secretary and delegate, Mr. W. J. Moore; committee, Messrs. R. A. Wilson, C. Jennings, C. Parsons, Thos. Whitta, J. W. Perry, F. Rhodes, J. A. Cameron, and Dransfield. Three remits were sent to the conference. A letter was read from the Board of Agriculture re noxious weeds, and it was unanimously decided that the Act be fully enforced over the whole district. The Government, in the opinion of members, were the worst offenders, and it was urged that they ought to show a better example.

Eleven sections of the Wither Run Estate were balloted for to-day bv the Land Board, says a Press Association telegram from Blenheim. There were 56 applicants, the successful applicauts all being local people. Mr. H. J. Richards, secretary to the Levin branch of the Farmers' 'Union, has been appointed delegate to represent the branch at the Provincial Conference at Pahiatua on May 18.
