PETONE COURT
At- the Petone Police Court last evening, before Messrs. J. W. M'Ewan and J. Piper, J.P.'s, a young man named Alfred Owen Bolton pleaded guilty to the theft of a bicycle, the property of Albert E. Hope. It appeared ihat the accused borrowed the bicycle from Hope, and after riding to Lower Hutt sold it to a dealer for £2. In ■ inflicting a fine of £5, in default one month's imprisonment, Sir. M'Ewan stated that the fact of having borrowed the machine and then sold it made it worse then having stolen the bicycle off the road. The Bench added that the month's incarceration would be without hard labour, in view of the accused's physical condition, and considering that he had recently come from a hospital, where ho had been ill, his circumstances would be made known to the authorities. The bicycle was ordered to be returned to the owner.
