SALE OF BELGIAN FLAG. (Prom Our Special Correspondent.) . A very, successful patriotic concert was held at Carterton on Friday evening, vhen.a really first-class programme was provided by the • Masterton Amateur Theatrical Society. , The Belgium flag, given by Mr. W. Howard Booth, realised £770, and was finally purchased by Mf. Booth for £100, and the Belgian Coat of Arms, painted on canvas, given by the Belgiaa Consul, the Hon. C. J. Johnston, M.L.C., which went with the. flag, was presented by the purchaser, to the Borough of Cartectou amid loud cheering, and singing for "He's a Jolly Good Fellow." , Among the largest bidders were:—Sir Walter Buchanan, £100; Messrs. R. Morrison, £100; W. Howard Booth, £100; Carterton Tradesmen's Association, £50; H. B. Bunnv. £50; Mr. and Mrs. Perry, £31; Mrs. H. Morrison, £25; and Miss Effiie Booth, £25. The .rendering of the "Absentminded . Beggar" by . , Major Hunn brought_ £13> 3s. 4d., and an Angora goat, given by Master Crew, realised £5 25., the last purchaser, Mr. H. R. Bunny, handing the pet back to its young owner. Miss Alma Susten's Red Cross doll was sold for £5 Is. When the total returns are in the result should go very close to realising £1000.
