AUCKLAND AUTUMN MEETING
COLONEL SOULT WINS BIG HANDICAP. OAKS WON BY HOY. (By Teleerash.—Press Association.) Auckland. April 5. 'The. Auokland Racing Clubs Autumn Meeting concluded to-day in beautiful weather. The course was in excellent condition and the racing throughout was good. 'There was a large attendance, but the investment on the totalisator was not equal to last year. During the day the sum of ,£51,489 was invested on the machine, against .£52,014 10s. for the corresponding day last year, a decrease of .£525 10s. The total for the two days was ,£95,370, against i 96,882 for the previous Autumn Meeting, a decrease of <£1512. The results are:—

Prom the barrier rise Kauri King and Gold Necklet went to the front of Lady Middleton and a bunched field, the leading pair being well out -at the turn, from which- 6tage Gold Necklet gradually forged ahead, and despite desperate efforts by the placed division, passed the post with two lengths' advantage. Harlestone still led round the home turn and at the distance had a winning chanoe., Hyginas and Taj Mahal then put in their claims, the latter eventually winning by three-quarters of a length from Hyginas, with Harlestone third a head away, and Arran fourth. (Sinclair). From a fair dispatch Bon Reve waa soon in the lead and was piloting Bedford, Colonel Soult, and Jack Delaval passing the stand. Around the back Bedford displaced Bon Reve and .was racing along kindly until the last three furlongs were entered when Jack Delaval and Colonel Soult moved up and once in the straight the pair fought out a stirring finish, victory going to Colonel Soult by three-quarters of a length. Merry Roe was third, a neck behind Jack Delaval. Goldsize was fourth, Phosphorus fifth, Soultikoff i sixth, and Bedford seventh. Time, 2min. 4flsec. Grattan assumed command and led Downham, King Lupin, and- Christmas Rose at a strong pace. When well in the straight he commcnced to tire and showed signs of distress a furlong from homo. King Lupin Rot to the front nearing the post and after a challenge from Waiorewa defeated the latter by a length and a quarter. Christmas Rose was third r length behind Waiorewa. Astor was fourth. Worcester put a break on the field early and had Tangiwai, Achilledes and Belasco as his nearest attendants down tile back and into the straight, when Belasco made a big effort and got to the lead. At the distance Achilledes and Prinoe Soult threw out strong challenges and headed Belasco. Nearing the post they fought out- a great finish, Prince Soult gaining the honours by a head. Belasco was third a neck further back. Worcester was fourth. Time, lmin. 43sec.
