The favourite led throughout, and won comfortably. Hap Dha was fourth and Ulysses fifth. Suratura was the only withdrawal from the Rototawai Handicap, for which event Blue Lake was a red-hot prder, with Chakwana also heavjly supported. Chakwana was the first out from a fair start, but was soon supplanted by the favourite, who established a good lead, with Sartovna heading the remainder of the field. Blue Lake was well clear on entering the straight, but- Chakwana was making up ground fast. . Half-way up the straight Chakwana. was on the favourite's girth, and, sustaining the pace, managed to make a Blue Lake appeared to run on again, but the effort was too late.

Privation was two lengths further back, just ahead of Uoldbearing. In the Waiohine Hack Handicap, Otter had all the best of the start, and soon had a good lead with the . rest of the field strung out. The favourite easily held the advantage to the .post, though Amber and Whit© put in a good run from the distance, ana managed to beat Whisperer for second money.
