DINGHY CAPSIZES

TWO YOUNG MEN DROWNED. (By Telegraph.—Presß Association.) Auckland, April 3. Two young men, John Hare and John Nicholls, residents of Otahuhu, were drowned in tho Tamaki River by the capsizing of a fiat-bottomed dinghy. In company with Jolui Jansen they were fishing, when tho craft capsized. Janeon was the only one of the three able to swim. They all held on to the capsized boat till Hare and Nicholls became exhausted and sank. Jansen's cries brought a launch to his rescue, and he was landed much exhausted after an hour in tho water. Efforts to recover tho bodies of the other two failed. Deceased were both single men about 30 years of age, employed at the Southdown Freezing Works. The body of William Nicholls was recovered yesterday afternoon near the scene of the accident. The body of Hare is still missing. At the inquest the Coroner greatly commended Jansen who was in the dinghy with, the two deceased for his conspicuous bravery In attempting to rescue them. A verdict of accidentally drowned was returned in the case of Nicholls. YOUNG GIRL SERIOUSLY INJURED A young girl named Kathleen O'Brien, daughter of Mr. T. O'Brien, of Cuba Street, was knocked down ana run over by y, bicycle in Cuba Street on Saturday morning. She was picked up unconscious and taken to her nome. She was found to be rather severely injured, and'only regained consciousness after about six hours. Last night she was reported to be in a rather serious condition. MAN KILLED AT SEDDON. Telegraphed advice was received at local police headquarters yesterday that a man named George Roberts was accidentally killed while working at a threshing mill at Seddon on Saturday. A TROOPER INJURED. Private G. M'Kay, of the Expeditionary Force at Trentham, had one of his legs fractured below the knee while playing football on Saturday. He was admitted to the Hospital the same evening, and last night was reported to be progressing as well as could be expected. FATAL JUMP~FROM A TRAIN. (By Telcer&Dh.—Press Association.) Auckland, April 3. At Greenlane Railway Station this morning a man named Barnaby was instantaneously killed while attempting to leave a train which slows down but does not stop when passing the racecourse. Ho was seen to jump from a carriage and disappeared beneath, practically the whole of the train passing over the body. Later. _ At the inquest deceased was identified as Ernest Frederick Towers, sawmill hand, Mercer, a married man with one child. He was 37 years of age. FATAL FALL DOWN A CLIFF. Christchurch, April 4. A distressingly sad occurrence happened on the shores of Lyttelton Harbour this morning whereby Mary Elizabeth Killick,' 38 years of age, wife of Mr. Edward Killick, residing at Linwood, met her death. Mr. and Mrs. Killick and their four children left Taylor's Mistake at 9.30 and walked over to North-West Bay.- After gathering some wood they started to cliinb tho cliff, Mrs. Killick having a stick in her hand. Her husband asked her if she required assistanco, as she complained of the steepness of the ascent. He was assisting her when she missed her footing and fell down the cliff, a distance or 200 or 300 feet. Her husband went down and found her alive. He returned to Taylor's Mistake, on the way communicating by telephone with'Lyttelton. When Sergeant Ryan and Dr. Newell and another reached the spot in a launch they found Mrs. Killick dead with her skull fractured and other injuries. ' DROPPED DEAD IN THE STREET. Marton, April 3. James Ferguson, aged about 50, dropped dead whilst walking in High Streot on Thursday evening. At the inquest a verdict was returned that death was due to heart failure from diseased valves.
