A SATISFACTORY POSITION

With all but four weeks' - figures available the financial .year of the Cit.v Tramways Department appears to have been a fairly satisfactory one. The revenue return for the forty-eigHt weeks ended March 2 last shows the amount of £163,806, as against £146,662 for the same period last financial year. The working expenses have been £101,203, but on to tnat amount has to be added £5690 special oharges, and £37,893 capital charges, leaving a balance to credit of £8520, as against £7699 at this time last year. During the eleven months under review- the working expenses per car mile have been cut down from 10.80 d. to 10.50 d., but the percentage of working expenses tJ revenue has increased 1 per cont. from 64 to 66 per cent.
