RIFLE-SHOOTING
COMPETITION FOR THE FIELD SHIELD.
The annual competition for the Field Shield was fired on the Hokowhitu Range, Falmerston North, ,on Saturday, by the Hautere .Defence Rifle Club., The shield, ithich was presented seven years ago by Mr. W. H ; . Field, M.P., to encourage rifle Shooting, is ' competed for annually by rifle clubs in the Otaki electorate. This year four-club 3 out of the six clubs in the electorate competed. The shield has now been competed -for seven times, .and. has been won five times by. the Hautere Club, once by the Ngatiawa Club, and. once, by the Shannon: Club. . Saturday, from a shooting standpoint, was. not' of the best,, a very tricky wind ani'change- . able light prevailing throughout the day. Sergeant-Major Matheson acted as range officer, and Mr. T.
