ASSOCIATION'S ANNUAL REPORT.
The sixteenth annual- report of the Wellington Hockey Association, to be presented at the annual mec-tiftg tomorrow evening, states that there are now twelve clubs affiliated to the association with a registered membership of 411 playere. The Wellington Wednesday Hockey Association, which is affiliated as a sub-association, comprises six clubs, with a membership of 97 players. •■There were twenty-nine teams oompeting in the championship contest divided up as 'ollows: —Seven senior teams, eleven junior teams, and eleven third-class teams. Immediately after the outbreak of war, the championship competitions were seriously affected'by tho number of'players that volunteered for _ active , servioe, aad the. committee desire to place upon record its oiation. of the way in which the hockey' players under, its jurisdiction responded to' the call for volunteers. Five members of the Management' Cbmmittee were amongst the nockeyites who enrolled for active service, a.nd the membership of each club suffered a severe loss. Under the circumstances it was found impossible to continue the championship contests' in any grade and it became necessary for the Management Committee to award the championships. The senior championship was awarded to the United Hockey Club, and this club must be heartily congratulated upon obtaining the position of champion club. In the junior grade several teams were close together, and in view of the number of games postponed and the im T possibility of satisfactorily . concluding thefixtures the Management Committee could not see its way clear to award this championship to any club. The third-class ohampionship was, awarded the Wellington Hockey Club (lIIA team).
The schools oompetition was again a great success, and resulted' in a very creditable win for the Karori Public School. Great interest was taken by the school boys in the games. The thanks of the' association are extended to all the members of the committee that control this section of the sport, and especially to Mr. C. H. E. Strack for his untiring and willing efforts in connection with the same. To Mr. R. Marshall the association extends its thanks for the cup presented by him for this competition. The seven a side tournament held' by this association at Karori Park on May 9, 1914, resulted in a. very creditable Win- for the Karori A team. .
The New-Zealand Hookey 'Association's challenge shield which' Wellington lostto Auckland in-the final match of last year was regained by Wellington in the final shield match tliis year by three goals to two. The committee is pleased to be able to report that the New Zealand Hockey . Association- proposes to amend the Nordon Cup rules so as to, enable certain sub-associations to compete for the Nordon Cup. ■It is proposed that tins privilege 6nall extend to • ' sub-associa-tions affiliated to the five associations that are not eligible to compete for the Nordon Cup, namely: Auckland, Hawke's Bay, Canterbury, Otago, and Wellington ; .witli . a special condition that the representative team playing for. any sub-association must be drawn from players that are plavi.ng for the subassociation only. If this propoeal is carried the.Wellington Wednesdnv- Hockey Association will then be eligible to play for the Nordon Cup. The thanks of the association are extended'to Mr. F. C.
