MUNICIPAL GOLF

BERHAMPORE SITE FAVOURED. Some months ago the City decided that the Berhampore hills, just above Wakefield Park, would make excellent golf links, and that they should bo provided. Then came the hold-up consequent upon the war. Some two months ago. the question again arose, and this time Messrs. Simpson and Watt were asked to report oil ajsite for municipal golf links on the Kilbirnie side of the Mount Victoria Town Belt. Mr. Simpson condemned the site hi set terms and Mr. Watt favoured it. The site was deserted altogether, and consideration was then diverted to tho sand-dunes at Lyall Bay. Then the Reserves Committee once •more grappled with tho question, and wanted to know what was the matter with Berhampore Since then this site has been inspected by Messrs. Watt and Douglas, professionals, and Messrs. Arthur Duncan.. (New Zealand champion), and James Marchbanks, amateurs, and they unanimously agree that the Berhampore site is the best available. In tho report to be presented to tho council this evening the Reserves .Committee will recommend that muni'cipal golf links be formed at Berhampore.
