WORLD'S FASTEST 500 YARDS. (By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (Rec. March 28, 5.5 p.m.) Sydney, March 2". Miss Fanny Durack has created a new -world's record, swimming 500 yards in 7min. 32 3-ssec. [This is apparently applicable to women's records only, as the present record for 500 Yards is 6min. 2 4-oscc. (J. 6. Hatfield," England).] iSOLF JOHNSON VILLE CLUB. The Johnsonville Clnb was opened for the season on Saturday afternoon. The weather was fine and the links were in good order. A very enjoyable afternoon was spent by a large party of members and guests. Sir Joseph Ward, the club's patron, made a short speech declaring the links open for play, and called upon Mr. Wallis, tho president, to drive_ tho first ball. A number of competitions were then held. Great interest was taken in this part of the programme, the men's approaching and putting contest being especially keen, the leaders in the first round having to play off three times. It was eventually won by Mr. Moore. The men's driving competition was won by Mr. Rupert Reid, a visitor from Hutt, l is distance being about 240 yards. In the ladies' competitions Mrs. Buddie won the approaching and putting, and Mrs. Grapes made the best drive. The links have ljeen much improved since last season, though some of tho greens were not quite ready for play on Saturday. A bogey match and medal round for men will be played on the club's links on the morning of Easter Monday, and on the spine day two medal rounds for ladies will be played.
