GUILTY OF THEFT
MASTER BUILDER FINED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) 't n Tlmaru, March 23. in the Supreme Court, Samuel Mitchell, master builder, was brought up for sentence on charges of stealing goods valued at £14 15s. and £13 15s. Prisoner's counsel said his client had a good business and had acquired property. He had made a remarkable collection of cutlery which had never been used, biit was rusting in a box. The thefts, it was stated, extended over five years. Mr. Justice Sim imposed a fine of £25 in each case. George James, who pleaded guilty to the theft of postal-orders for £20 10s., came up for sentence, but this was deferred, as tho depositions woro not properly signed at Asliburton. A charge against Robert Guthrie of stealing 48 sheep from a neighbour named Maxwell (over which the jury disagreed last session) was commenced and not completed.
