TRIAL BY JURY

•A SUCCESSFUL APPEAL. Melbourne, March 12. Judge Murray recently sentenced a man named Bernasconi to a year's imprisonment at Port Moresby for hanging a native boy to a rafter of a store as punishment. Bernasconi demanded that the case be heard before a jury, and Judge Murray stated a case for the opinion of the High Court. Sir 'William Irvine,: K.C., supported the appeal, contending that'under Federal law Bernasconi was entitled to trial by jury therefore lie was illegally convicted. '
