F.OOrBALL OLD BOYS' CLUB. - In the annual report of the Wellington College Old Boys' Football C'ub the committee congratulated members of the first team on winning the rhirdclass championship, while the fourth and fifth-olass teams did well. Tho club has now 57 active, 94 hononary, and 4 life-members. lieferring to tho Empire's call and general matters, the report says:—
"Last year's competitions, as we all kiiow so well, came to a sudden c'o6o, but we are all proud of the reason why teams could not be placed in the field. Our oountry called, and footballers were not slow to respond. It is particularly good to kn<»w and record the fact that Old Boys everywhere were in the van: Practically all our last year'a older active players have volunteered, and we feel.certain that they can bo relied upon to do their duty. Our financial position is everything that can be desired, our bank balance being £62 Is. 4d.; and our liabilities nil.' AVe have to thank '• the following for donations .-—Messrs. J. P. Firth, M. C. Barnctt, F. M. B. Fisher, W. H. D. Bell, W. E. Bethune, A. de B. Brandon, B. M. Wilson, Drs. E. W. Giesen, J. S. Jjilliott, Young, Martin, and Gilmer, and Sir K. Douglas. We purpose during the coming season to run a boxing club in conjunction with the football, and tmst. it will reoeive a full measure of support, especially aB the quicknesß' so necessary and essential in the ono is also one of the greatest, if not the greatest, of all factors in the other. Messrs. D. Scott and H. Tonks aro to be congratulated on attaining representative honours. It is with regret that vour committee has to place on record tho loss by death of Mr. S. S. Brown, and the loss of Messrs. ft. Robinson and H. P. Matbewson, who havo.been transferred to Queensland and Christchurch respectively. The first-named, though not well-known .to our present players, was one who rendered great service to the. club in its early, days. With the war Btill.on, no club can expect to map out an ambitious programme for the coming season, but your committee -feels that an opportunity to play the game should be given to the younger members as well as to jihose players who through force of circumstances cannot volunteer for active service abroad."
