ASSISTANCE. REQUIRED,

A deputation waited- on the City Council last night to' ask for assistance in improving the lot of the numerous swimmers who use the shoda at Evans Bay and Kilbirnie.

Mr. H. Fox, representing the swimmers of Newtown and Kilbirnie said the deputation was of opinion that the dressing shed accommodation was inadequate, and that the accommodation for deep-water diving was not what was wanted. The swimming chb had raised a certain sum of money, and suggested that the council should grant, a subsidy to enable improvements to be made. It was felt that there was need of a- custodian to 'guard against pilfering and generally to regulate the traffic. An improved track was wanted down the hillside, and the place could bo made more comfortable for bathers if a quantity of the gravel could ho removed from the water in the vicinity.

The Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke) assured the deputation that the council recognised the claims of the Kilbirnie residents in this respect, and that the request would he favourably considered. The matter was subsequently referred to the Baths and Beaches Committee.
