FIRE IN FREEZING WORKS.
(Bj Teleßrapli—Press Association.) Napier, March 4. The North British Freezing Works were the scone of another fire early this morning. The outbreak started in the offices' and spread to the freezer. The former were totally destroyed and the latter 60 seriously damaged that it will need rebuilding. About 13,000 carcasses of mutton were destroyed. Fortunately only a light easterly breeze was blowing, otherwise the whole of "tfie structures would have been razed. The insurances on the freezing works amounted to £760(Hn the London and Lancashire and Atlas offices. The damage amounts to about £5760. The loss on' the meat falls on the Government, whioh ; had taken control. (As the Government purchases meat f.0.b., taking no responsibility for storage or transport to the ship's side, it would appear that the statement that the loss of the meat falls on the Government is in error.)
