ACCIDENTS AND
FATALITIES , DEATH FROM HEART FAILURE. An inquest was held by Mr. D. G. A. | Cooper, S.M., yesterday afternoon into the cause of the death of John Reynolds, an old man of 70 years, who was found dead in bed at 44 Manners Street cn Sunday morning. Dr. Hamilton Gilmer said be conducted a post-mortem examination of deceased's body. The heart was considerably diseased, and this'was the cause of deceased's death. A verdict was returned in accordance with the medical evidence. SUICIDE BY SHOOTING. {By Telegraph.—Presa Association.) Inveroarglll,. March 1. Duncan Dundas, aged sixty years, a bachelor, committed suicide by shooting himself through, the head in' the Riverton Council Chambers oh Saturday night. 111-health was the cause. A YOUTH DROWNED. Auckland, March 1. James Cadman, eighteen years of rga, was drowned at Orakei Bridge, in the Waitemata Harbour, yesterday afternoon. The water was shallow and Cadman "went cut for a distance of. a hundied yards. Ho suddenly disappeared, and was not seen again. The body was recovered at midnight. • A mark the left eye indicated that Cadman had dived and struck one of the stakes with which the vicinity abounds, thus l.eing rendered unconscious.
DROWNED IN A CREEK. Carterton, March 1. A young man named Henry Ernest Phillips, aged 24 years, was drowned in the Whareroto Greek, Kakutara, on Sunday. Deceased and a friend vere bathing, when the former suddenly sank. Several attempts were made to recover the body, but it was not found till late in the evening. The body has been taken to Featherston. FOUND DROWNED. Creymouth, March 1. , James Walker, a young married man with two children, was found drowned in the Hochstetter Company's head-race timber workings on Saturday. _ lie was employed in driving the oil _ engine (jumps. The body was found in three feet of water. A sudden seizure, or heart failure, is believed to have been the cause of his death. CAUGHT IN A LANDSLIDE. Clsborris, March 1. An elderly man; named M. O'Sullivan, employed on the public works at Ngatapa, was caught by a. landslide this afternoon, and almost completely buried under tons of debris. When extricated he was found to be terribly injured, suffering from a broken wrist, broken ribs, and fractured skull. He is now in hospital in Gisborne.
