WELLINGTON HOTELS
LICENSING COMMITTEE MEETS. . The /Wellington Licensing Committee held it!s quarterly meeting at the Magistrate's Court yesterday. Mr. W. G. Hiddell, S.M., presided,- and there were also present: Messrs. It. Fletcher, W. J. Helyer, G. J. Penherick, J. Smith, and G. Tiller. In commenting on the police report, the chairman said the committee was very well satisfied with the conduct of City hotels during the past three months. There was only one hotel that called for any comment. This was the Royal Hotel (licensee, J. Connor). According to the police the conduct of the Royal was "only middling," while in the other hotels the reports were "well" and "fairly well." 'Ine Committee, said the Chairman, would like to see the Royal Hotel take its place amoiig the others at the end of the next quarter. Superintendent Ellison inquired if the Committee had any information in respect to . the Club Hotel. The Chairman' replied that there was nothing before the Committee. Superintendent Ellison replied that the hotel furniture had been sold last week, and he understood that there were only one or two rooms now furnished. The superintendent said he thought perhaps the Committee may have been informed of the intention to , rebuild the house. I The Chairman replied that it was for the, Licensee to see that lie kept within the requirements of the Licensing Act. Transfers were applied for and granted as follow: —Pier Hotel, Roborfc Hunt to Patrick Jos. Griffin; N'ow Commercial Hotel, A. A. E Ilardcast-le to A. 11. Durant; City Hotel, J. J. Firth to Mr. J. Donnelly; Occidental Hotel, J. H. Fairbairn to C. E. Aldridge. Mr, J. J. M'Grath appeared on behalf if the applioants.
