The annual meeting of subscribers to the Majsterton Technical Classes' Association was held on Monday evening, when the annual report and balancesheet were adopted. Messrs. W. H. Jackson, J. W. ]31ackman, J. M. Coradine, and C. E. Daniell were' elected managers, with Mr. A. W. Hogg as representative of tho Education Board. Mr. J. M. Coradine was elected chairman for the ensuing year. The Masterton Homing Pigeon Club flew a young bird race from the Upper Hutt, which was won by Mr. W. Price s Blue Bird. Arrangements are well advanced for tho Wellington provincial championship athletic meeting, which, is to be held here on Thursday, March 4. A large number of entries have been received. The total number of entries received for the Masterton Horticultural Society's Show is 729. ' This constitutes a record for the society. A slight shock of earthquake was experienced here at 3.20 o'clock on Monday afternoon. .... The results of the weight-judging competition in connection with the Masterton Show were made known on Monday. The weight of the bullock was 8581b,, and that of the pen of sheep 1651b. The first prize iu connection with the bullock was divided between Messrs. P. Pedersen and J. Jamieson, with Messrs. T. Wyrth and G. Cox second. Mrs. M'Lay judged the exact ' weight of the sheep, ana Mr. D. A. Pickering second. WANCANUI. An employer was charged_ at lie Magistrate's Court to-day with failing to keep a wages and overtime book. When called he waved a telegram in his hand, and said he had received it from the Prime Minister asking him to keep down the cost of living, and added that if employers were subject to pinpricking by an over-zealous inspector, the public would have to pay the extra cost. A special meeting of the Borough Council, was held last evening to consider the question of providing additional power, for the tramways. The Echeme is to provide in, the proposed extensions a plant for generating electricity for private consumers, and in this way to meet the increased cost.. The proposed additions are estimated to oost £24,000, and it was decided to submit a proposal to borrow the sum mentioned to the ratepayers for their sanction. A large number of visitors have arrived for the races on Thursday and ; Saturday. ' J
