ST. JOHN AMBULANCE ASSOCIATION
A meeting of the Wellington Centre of the St. John Ambulance Association was held last evening. Mr; C. P. Powlos was in the chair, and there were ahjo present Mesdames Luke, Preston, A. H. Waters, the Misses Helyer and Robieson, Mr. H. Sped,, and the secretary. .' Letters "we're read from the secretary of the Marton Patriotic Fund Committee, contributing £180 to the St. John War Fund, .and another from tthe seoretary of tho Patutahi, Hall Committee, remitting £5 Ss.- for the sanje fund. A circular memorandum from the secretary-general in London; referring to the establishment of St. John Ambulance Brigade Hospital, to be'staffed by St. John Ambulance men and nurses possessing the necessary qualifications, was read and considered. The secretary further reported that the War Fund exceeded £300. The following allocations were then made, viz.£loo to be remitted to St. John's Gate, London, to the European War Fund, referred to in Lord Ranfurly's letter of August 27 last; £50.t0 be remitted to St. John's Gate, for the upkeep for six months of a bed in the, St.- John Ambulance Brigade Hospital, "St. John Ambulance Association, Wellington," being the style of the donors. It was. resolved: — "That in. view of the British Government accepting tie services of, 50 nurses, members of the Trained Nnrses' .Association of New Zealand, it is desirable to vote a sum of £50, to be remitted to the High Commissioner, London, to be held ,-at the disposal of the matron appointed, to be used by her as she thinks .fit, during the duration of the war, to aid wounded New Zealand soldiers." "That £20 be voted for the equipment of a bed, to be known as the 'St. John Ambulance Association, Wellington Bed,' at the Trentham Base Hos-pia-tl, and that a further sum of £30 be vcted to the Medical Association for use in the medical equipment of the Trentham Base Hospital." After discussion it was decided to appoint March 13 as the date for Ambulance Saturday collection. MEETING AT PETONE. The Petone Ambulance Station was crowded last evening, when a meeting was called by the St. John Ambulance Brigade (Petone Division) for the purpose of organising a daylight parade and fancy costume cricket match, the object of which is to raise funds to assist ambulance work at tho front. Superintendent Andrews presided and a sub-committee was appointed to make further arrangements ■ • in connection with the function, .which is to be held on .Saturday, March 20, at the Petone Recreation Ground.
