A number of horses engaged at the "Wanganui J.C. Meeting arrived last night, including Dinner Gong, Indigo, Black Heart, Tirohanga, Chaminade, Avon Park, Styrax, Belosco, Goldstream, Fair Eosamond, and Glenroy. No work of any importance was done until this morning, when Court Martial and Flying Start ran six furlongs together in lmin.' 18 2-ssec., finishing together. Goldsizo (G. Clarke) covered a mile and a quarter in 2min.' 12sec. Bmperador and Eed Book did the 6ame distance in 2min. 18sec. The former was in front. Mahlstick and EI Gallo were together at tho end of seven furlongs, run in lmin, 32 2-ssec. Marshal M'Donald and Chaminade galloped a. mil® and a quaitor in 2min. IGsec. . Styrax and Naupata went twice round tha schooling hurdles together, jumping fajrly well. St. Gate was better than Euroco over the hurdles. ■ , ' ■ ' Camellia beat Bed Saint over half a mile in 51sec. Sweet Van and Vladian did five furlongs in lmin. ssec. Belasco was better than Goldstream in lmin. 3sec. Indigo, Fair Kosamond, Black Heart, Dinner Gong, Bimoter, Tirohanga, and Glenroy did easy pacing.

OBITUARY MR. EDWARD CUTTS. , (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Christchurch, February 23. . Mr. Edward Cutts, tho veteran Eiccarton trainer, died at Chokebore Lodge, at noon, 'aged 77 years. The late Mr. Cutts was probably the best known and most popular trainer in the Dominion racing world. He was born at Black Creek, Jlaitland, New South Wales, and came to New. Zealand as a boy with his brother George. They were connected 'with Mr. Henry Redwood's stable in the late '50's and early GO's. Air. George Cutts rode Wet Sail to victory in. the Canterbury Cup in 1859 and 1860. Mr, Edward Cutts continued in the employ of Mr. Eedwood for about thirty years, during .which time he trained and fode many winners, : while he was known as an excellent shot. The deceased accom. panied Mr. Redwood's horses to Australia on- several occasions,' Joe, winner of the Champion Race, was a member of the team sent in 1858. Other winners trained b;- Mr. Cutts during the time he was associated with Mr. Redwood were Manuka, Peeress, Lurline, Calumny, Longlands, Guy Fawkes, Papapa, Songster, and others. Mr. Redwood purchased Chokebore Lodge, and Cutts trained his horses thero for about ten years, when he bought the place, and set up as a public trainer. 'He subsequently trained Sir Modred, a great performer in New Zealand and Australia. Major George's Nelson was another great horse lie had, and other good winners were Ravens wing, Dudu, Cynisca, and Pygmalion. During the past thirty yearfc the deceased gentleman has acted as private trainer for Sir George Clifford, and during that time he has trained the winner of nearly feverv important ©vent in the Dominion. To mark the completion of their association as owner and trainer for.a ouarter of a century, Sir George Cliftord presenled Mr. Cutt3 with a silver shield, on which was inscribed the names of ithe principal winners 6ent out from Ohokelwre Lodge. During the .past ranple tf years Mr. Cutts showed signs of tailing health, and he had not attended many ineetingß away, from Christchurch. His sons—Harry and Albert—have for some ?SSI hul charge of. the teams on tour. Mrs. Alfred Dickson, of Christchurch, is a daughter of deceased.
