The winner was bred in the Dominion, and is raced by his trainer, C.-Wheeler, who has Land of Song in his stables. At the Dunedin meeting on Saturday after Bonsign had won the Hopeful Handicap by a narrow margin from , Bel 1shire, the stewards held an inquiry about some happenings in the Tace, and the result was that K. Berry, who rode the winner, was suspended for one month. Returnffli visitors from Wingatui say that Saturday's racing was the best over seen on the course. In several events the finishes were very close indeed. At the conclusion of the South Auckland meeting Trainer D. Moraghan journeyed on to the Thames to get .the halfbrother to Loyal Arch, recently 'purchased by him. Included amongst the winners at the South Auckland meeting on Saturday, was Penroe, the half-sister to Merry Koe. Edward Hempson, a jockey employed by Isaac Foulsham, the liandwick trainer, who is at present m Melbourne with the Newmarket Handicap favourite Woorak, fell dead off the Melbourne Cup winner Kingsburgh at Kandwick racecourse last week. Hempson was trotting the horse on to the training track when he was seen to sway in the saddle and fall. Several trainers arid racecourse officials rushed over to see what was the matter, but it was too late to do anything, as Hempson died in a few seconds, It is stated that he . was subject to fits, and quite recently medical assistance had to be sought on the course to bring him to after a'seizure. Hempson, who . had .been previously attached to Mr. J. Trenoweth's training stable, joined Foulsliam's establishment a few months ago. He was a middle-aged man, and is believed to have been unmarried.

The payments for the Wanganui meeting may be considered satisfactory. There was some doubt about: Indigo starting, but he is ia the acceptances, and has arrived at Wanganui. Pavlova was withdrawn early, Ivoojvi is still with a bad knee, Tatimi ; was very sore after racing at Gisborne and El Gallo has been left in the Plying Handicap. Despite wholesale defections , there are still sixteen horses left in. the Plying Handicap, but the field may be reduced slightly, as H. J. Mason has two engaged, and, Ladoga and Astor are also in the' Stewards' Handicap. Only four remain in _ the Hack Hurdles, . but there are twice that number in the Westmere Hurdles. Dinner GoDg. has been taken' put of the Juvenile Handicap, and left in the Plying Handicap. It will be remembered that the Yaldhurst filly ran a good race in the Telegraph Handicap at the recent Trentham meeting. '

There arrived by the Euahino from London yesterday morning an interesting addition to the Dominion's blood racing' stock in the five-year-old brown horse, Sanquhar (Santry-Value), which has been purchased -by Sir George. Clifford from Lord Kosebery. The horse 1 was brought out in charge of Mr. T. Childs, who has made : maay 'trips between the Ola Country and New Zealand in charge of bloodstock.
