THE ORDER OF THE STAR OF THE EAST
\ At the last meeting of the above Order an instructive lecture, was delivered bv Mr. Edmanson, P.8.E.A., the president and fouhder of the Wellington Esperanto. Society, on the subject of .Esperanto and its close relationship to tihe objects, of the OrdorHiamely, a World-wide social influence f<vr peace and gbodwitj amongst all people. He claimejl that;if the people of the world-could speak to each other and be Understood, there, w6uld.be less danger ,of differences, ' and a' surer' feeling of 'fraternity aiid common interest than prists today. Esperanto, like the Order, did hot obtrude itself upon any . existing janguage,' politics,- religion, or tact, but aimed' at being merely an auxiliary, duplicate instrument of communication for all. . Millions had acquired a practical lise of it, and had been surprised at the facility with which it could be learned and used. He traced the. matter from its inception, and gave several vdry interesting examples of the marvellous tvay Dr. Zamenhof has elaborated-. tho, how, harmonious, and exceedingly practical language; ■ * Several members, led by- Miss Christie, who presided at; tho miietihg, have ' made'.arrangements \ to co:tnmence.the study of Esperanto forth' with. Mr..Edmauson offering his assist--1 ande freely. On the motion of Mass j Christie, a vote of thanlcs. was passed to the lecturer.
