Medical men are obliged to immediately notify the iiealth Department of any cases of'ill-, fectious disease coming under their care, but no such obligation is imposed on hospitals where cakes come direct into siich .institutions, 1 and the chairman pointed out that it 'was conceivable that tlio Health Inspector might not be able to- obtain the necessary infonnation to eniible him to trade such diseases to thefr cause, and'effect the proper safeguards. Tho board bsolved to instruct the 1 responsible heads of the Wanganui and 'Taihape Hospitals to at once notify the Health authorities of such cases in the manner required of ordinary practitionbrs. Hospital Board's officers having grown : ; too small for i requirement, it has been decided to ariect new offices on land already owned by; the board, at a cost .of'£looo.' . i, The board also .decided to appoint a permaiUnt dispenser to the Wanganui Hospital staff. ■ During, January 147 cases were treat-, ed in thd Wanganui Hdspital, of whom 67 were discharged and' 4 died, leaving 76 in tie, institution-at the end of the month. In the Taihape Hospital for the same period, the number of patients treated wis 27, of whom 13 were discharged arid two diefl, 12 remaining at the end of the month.
