THE CAR SERVICE
MIRAMAR PROTEST. At a meeting of the Miramar Ratspayers' Association the following resolution was carried: — "That having regard to the reported intention of the City tramway authorities to further' curail the already restricted Wellington-Miramar service, this meeting of the Miramar Ratepayers' Association enters its emphatic protest against any departure from the existing time-table that does not pro- ' vide for a more liberal service." In support of this resolution the Association would point out that: (1) Miramar is plready heavily handicapped'by the existing'infrequent, service, and the excessive overcrowding, which takes place on the Miramar cars, as a result of which Miramar residents have frequently been left behind when attempting to join the cars at Courtenay Place, while Hataitai and Kilbirnie passengers monopolise the accommodation which should be reserved for the longer distance passengers. (2) That settlement in the borough is retarded by the high fares and infrequent service at present provided, and that'consequently any curtailment of the existing service must operate to the disadvantage of the borough. (3) That Miramar already suffers under the disadvantage of being the only suburb that has its tramway service, cut short at Courtenay Place during the afternpons of Ibe week, as _a result of which its residents are deprived of tie advantage of concession tickets over the four sections between the hours of 1 and 5 p.m., and that no change in the tramway service. will be regarded as satisfactory that does not provide for the running of the cars through to the. Government Station. (4). That during the rush hours Miramar cars should be reserved for Miramar passengers as far as possible up to the Boundary, and that as a _ means to that'end minimum fares covering the four sections from the Government tSation to the Boundary should be charged on all cars run during such houre. (5) That any alteration.on the existing Sunday cars in the direction of sub-, stituting an eighty-minute service for the present time-table would be fraught with inconvenience to passengers using the trams on Sundays, and would tend to retard further settlement in the borough. ■ . For the. Tea6ons above stated the Miramar Ratepayers' Association appeals to the Borough Council to resist any shortening of the tramway service and enters its emphatic protest against the unfair treatment meted out to Miramar people by the City tramway authorities.
